HOW YOUR PCOS IS AFFECTING YOUR FERTILITY

Have you been struggling with PCOS for years and nervous about how this can affect your fertility?

I TOTALLY get it, girl!

PCOS is the #1 cause of ovulatory infertility in women.

Why? The main reason is because women with PCOS do not ovulate regularly. You must ovulate in order to get pregnant, so what we really need to work on is to get you to OVULATE!!

Let me tell you a bit about Rachel!

My client Rachel (name changed for privacy) came to me because she had been diagnosed with PCOS when she was a teenager, about 12 years before, and she wanted to work on managing it and optimizing her fertility.

She had been trying to conceive for about a year before she came to me with no success. Her periods were extremely irregular, it visited her about 3 times a year with vengeance (This in itself makes it harder to conceive since the chances of conception are 3/12) She also struggled with intense cravings, fatigue, hirsutism- facial hair- and acne.

After reviewing her lab work and DUTCH testing, we saw that she needed to work on her insulin resistance and her testosterone was super high. High testosterone will inhibit ovulation, ovulation is needed for your egg to makes its way down the follopian tube for conception.

Via the DUTCH test we saw that she was preferring the alpha pathway for her androgens so we implemented strategies for her as well. We also noted that she needed to work on her estrogen detoxification, this explains why she had terrible cramping and heavy periods when aunt flo did visit.

We came up with a customized protocol for her and she began implementing diet, lifestyle changes and the supplements I suggested. The main goal was to get her to ovulate!! This is what will increase her chances of conception and have a healthy baby!

After about 2 months she got her first period!! Symptom free!! She was feeling so much better overall, more energy and clearer skin. About 2 months after she finished the program, I received an email from her that she got her first positive pregnancy test!

She worked with her body by finding the root cause of her PCOS. In her case she had insulin resistance, high testosterone and needed to work on healthy detoxification. She didn't have to go on any extreme diet or exercise routine. Rachel learned how to manage her PCOS in a sustainable way because PCOS is life long condition!

So what are some things you can do today to help increase the chances of ovulation?

1) Include a diet high in anti inflammatory foods- This includes berries, fatty fish such as salmon or sardines, fruits, veggies and nuts.

2)Address any insulin resistance- Work on your diet by incorporating protein and fats together with your carbs, meaning no naked carbs! Also, try not to go too long between meals.

3)Lower Testosterone- If you have high testosterone, it is essential to work on lowering it. Balancing your blood sugar, working on stress, sleep, gut health and specific supplements can help with this.

Each of you will have different approaches to focus on to help support ovulation, it really depends on what is going on with YOU!
